Connecting Our Community Through Public Transportation

Saipan, CNMI (November 1, 2023) — The Commonwealth Office of Transit Authority (COTA) under the Office of The Governor has a fresh new look and a new name for its public transportation services. As Special Assistant for Public Transportation, Alfreda Camacho Maratita, introduces the community to Transit CNMI. While the look and name are new, Transit CNMI delivers on COTA’s mission to provide the community with a dependable, reliable, safe, and cost-effective public transit system in order to reduce energy consumption, strengthen cultural values, and contribute economic development for the residents of the Commonwealth.

COTA is dedicated to breathing new life into the CNMI’s transportation services, ensuring a rejuvenated image that welcomes all community members to utilize a convenient island-wide transportation system for their daily commutes. By focusing on providing accessible, sustainable, and innovative public transportation options, Transit CNMI aims to generate excitement and positive attention within the community.

Acting Governor David M. Apatang says the renewed focus on public transportation is part of the administration’s long-term plan to revitalize the economy by empowering residents to affordably access employment opportunities.

“I commend the efforts of the Commonwealth Office of Transit Authority in the introduction of Transit CNMI. This rebranding initiative signifies our commitment to progressive and accessible public transportation,” Apatang said. “By embracing innovation and community engagement, Transit CNMI embodies our shared vision for a more connected, eco-conscious CNMI. I encourage our residents to actively participate in this transformative journey, making use of the enhanced services that Transit CNMI will bring to our islands.”

Special Assistant Camacho Maratita says the Transit CNMI introduction is the first step in the comprehensive rebranding and community outreach process for the CNMI’s public transportation program.

“We are thrilled to unveil Transit CNMI! Our upcoming initiatives, including new bus routes and revamped social media platforms, will redefine public transportation in the Commonwealth, “Camacho Maratita said. “We invite the community to join us on this exciting journey as we enhance accessibility and sustainability in our transportation services.”

In the weeks ahead, Transit CNMI will unveil a series of exciting initiatives, including new bus routes designed to serve the community’s evolving needs.
